Earlier today, I saw a posting on the web:

*Call for Artists: Arts Business Institute Comes to Haywood
    Community College in Clyde, NC*

Artists from across the country will have the opportunity to sharpen
their business skills when the Arts Business Institute (ABI) holds
an Arts Business Boot Camp for artists at Haywood Community College
in Clyde, N.C. Titled Reinventing Your Art and Craft Business in
the 21st Century, the boot camp will be held March 30-April 1, 2007.
This will be the 5th annual ABI boot camp at Haywood Community
College. The weekend workshop is designed to provide realistic
information and essential knowledge about managing an arts business
to artists at all levels of experience. ABI faculty includes Bruce
Baker, Milon Townsend and Nancy Markoe.

The Arts Business Institute is a professional, non-profit education
organization that provides artists with the business skills needed to
manage successful arts businesses. The Institute provides learning
modules on topics such as product development, pricing, public
relations, wholesaling to galleries, taxes and accounting. The weekend
workshop is being produced in partnership with the Arts Business
Institute (www.ArtsBusinessInstitute.org), Haywood Community College
(www.haywood.edu) and Handmade in America (handmadeinamerica.org).

Maybe the idea of an artist boot camp isn't new to the other members of
the BVA forum, but I think it could be one good way to brand and market
the region to artists and creatives in the outside world.
