[Forum] Group Painting Jam Sessions?

Hi All,

DannyO and I were brainstorming in my studio recently and something must
have knocked loose a plug in the dam, because this morning Danny called with
a great suggestion, and I want to throw it out to gauge what interest this
group may have. Basically the idea is a jam session for painters, meeting in
my studio (to start) and outdoors for plein air sessions (since Spring is
here). The benefits are several: Many of us find that working near other
painters produces an energy that almost never happens in solitude; there's a
camaraderie and an opportunity for interaction that promotes synergies; when
we move outdoors, en masse, we'll increase our visibility and create
opportunities for interaction with passersby; we could promote the group
identity to create new venues for showing work (restaurants, bars,
libraries, galleries, storefronts, billboards - who knows?; networking
opportunity; publicity opportunity; fun.

There are many things that we can do to increase visibility within the
community - but I think the best kind of thing to do is something we enjoy;
it's easier to commit to and stick with. This solution is one among many,
but for painters, it could be a neat trick. The group need not limit itself
to the local area, either; we could schedule painting trips to nearby towns,
more distant locations, parks, institutions (think Tanglewood, City Commons
and Parks, Farmers Markets, Public Greens, etc. Locally, there are great
outdoor locations both public and private. Ranging from Main Street to The
Clark, Hairpin Turn to Whitcombe Summit, Sheeps Hill to Williams College. As
good citizens, we would naturally ask for permission to be in these places,
but I'm fairly certain the impediments would be few.

Perhaps musicians and photographers (and videographers) would like to join
in the fun?

I'd love to hear from those who have an interest in getting together to
paint in the studio and in plein air.

Best,
