I know this has been tossed around as an idea for a long time, but I'd
have to agree with Dan. A pedestrian way would be really great for all
the reasons Karen mentions, and in the summer I think it would become a
destination. What happens in the colder weather, when people just want
to be able to pull up in front of a shop and run in? That would surely
be the death of Eagle Street merchants.
Instead of having the farmers market in the parking lot across from
MoCA...why not move it to the parking lot behind 85 Main St.? People
would see the activity as they drive by and it would be a very easy
transition for people to overflow onto Eagle and Main Streets. On top
of that they could park on Eagle, Main or in the lots and easily get to
the market.
