Museum of Fine Arts curator, Cheryl Brutvan, has organized a poignant and powerful if problematic and uneven exhibition "War and Discontent" which combines masterpieces from the collection by Goya and Manet and a late Picasso with contemporary works by Warhol, Haring, Golub, Morris and others. It is just not like the MFA to mount such an edgy topical survey but the effort is much appreciated. As the tragic wars in Iraq and Afghanistan drag on with no end in sight it is ever more important to consider the statements of artiists, past and present, on the Disasters of War. Astrid Hiemer posts an addendum on the Phill Collins video "They Kill Horses." Despite writing an enthusiastic preview, Michael Miller, had second thoughts after attending the Handel Oratorio which he descibes as D.O.A, at the Mahaiwe in Great Barrington.
